When Claude Code is connected to your code editor (IDE), text you select there can be attached to your prompt. If you cancel the prompt, that selection is handed back. It is now handed back only if you have not already made a new text selection or diff selection. A specific selection can also be named when handing it back.
Why
Cancelling a prompt no longer overwrites a fresh selection with an older one.
