The artifact tool can only open artifacts. When it is given another kind of claude.ai link, it now returns a specific error instead of a generic failure. This covers links to:
a chat
a share
a task
a project
Claude Design
The error points to the artifact's own URL, or, for a Claude Design link, says the tool cannot open it and a design tool should be used.
Why
Pasting the wrong kind of link is an easy mistake. The error now tells Claude, and you, which link to use instead.
