What

A host is a program that runs Claude Code and sends it control requests, messages that change things during a session. Claude Code now has a check that accepts only these request types, or any reply to a control request:

  • apply_flag_settings
  • set_max_thinking_tokens
  • set_permission_mode
  • mcp_set_servers
  • mcp_reconnect
  • reload_skills

Separately, a reply carrying certain request IDs now marks a command as finished early.

Why

This acts as a filter on which control messages count in some situations.
