What

A hook is a command a plugin asks Claude Code to run when something happens, such as before a tool is used. When Claude Code skips a plugin's hook, it can pass a note about that to Claude. It now does so only if the plugin's name and the event names are plain identifiers (simple names made of ordinary characters). Otherwise Claude is not told, and Claude Code only records that the notice was withheld.

Before, the note was always passed on.

Why

It stops a plugin from slipping instructions to Claude through a crafted plugin or event name, a trick known as prompt injection.
