Shortly after Claude Code starts, and after a short random delay, a new background task fetches your usage information and looks for an entry tied to a promotion. It saves whether the promotion is open, and when it ends, in Claude Code's global configuration. That is the settings store that applies across all your projects. The check is limited for each sign-in, so it does not run every time.
Nothing is shown to you as a result of this check yet.
Why
This lays groundwork for a notice about promotional credit on your account. For now it only records an answer in the background.
