What
When you hit a rate limit, Claude Code sends a message describing it. That message can now include an optional usage credit offer with:
- its kind: a percentage off, or extra credit
- a headline percentage
- days left on the offer
- a label
The offer is internal and is sent only to sessions that the VS Code extension owns.
Why
This lets the VS Code extension show an offer for usage credit when you are rate limited. The server decides whether an offer is ever sent.
