What

Claude Code has a new tool, ListDirectoryForRemote, that a remote client can use to list the contents of a folder. It checks the path and the session's permission rules first. It gives back a capped list of entries, or a refusal with a reason:

  • read_rule, when a permission rule blocks reading the folder.
  • workspace_moved, when the project folder has moved.
  • unexpected_error, for anything else.
Why

A remote client can browse folders on your machine while still being bound by the same permission rules as the session.
