Terminal UIArea: what it touches

Unclear The exact condition that makes Claude Code skip the query is not stated beyond its link to VTE versions before 0.53.
What
When Claude Code starts, it sends the terminal a few hidden questions to learn what the terminal supports. One of them, XTVERSION, asks the terminal to report its name and version. Before this release it was always sent.
Claude Code now skips that question under a certain condition, and its debug log notes that XTVERSION was not asked because terminals built on VTE before version 0.53 would show the query as text. When XTVERSION is skipped, a second query, DECRQM 2026, is skipped as well.
Why
On older VTE-based terminals, such as older versions of GNOME Terminal, these queries could appear as stray characters on screen. Skipping them should stop that.
