What

Claude Code can now work out which app it is running in and write a "# Surface" section into the system prompt (the standing instructions Claude Code gives Claude). The apps it recognizes include:

  • desktop
  • vscode
  • web
  • mobile
  • slack
  • scheduled
  • github_action
  • cowork
  • sdk
  • terminal

The built-in session guidance can also swap in different wording.
