What

Vim mode lets you edit the prompt box with keys that work like the Vim text editor. The text box is now told whether the cursor sits on a character. That is true in every vim mode except INSERT, the mode for typing text.

Why

In Vim, the cursor rests on a character in normal and visual modes, and between characters only while typing. This fixes how the cursor is drawn in those modes.
