Unclear Which terminals or settings make Claude Code switch this handling on is not clear.

What

Claude Code draws its interface in the terminal with its own renderer. It gains support for text direction, meaning left-to-right or right-to-left writing:

  • The ink-text Text component accepts a dir property and passes it on as the textDirection style.
  • The renderer adds a writeDirected path that puts a left-to-right or right-to-left mark in front of text and right-aligns right-to-left text within the available width.
  • Two helpers, keepColumns and trailingSpaces, support this.

All of it sits behind a check, so it does not necessarily apply everywhere yet.

Why

Right-to-left languages such as Hebrew and Arabic can be laid out the right way round in the terminal where this is in use.
