Unclear It is not clear how ultracode mode is turned on or which models qualify.
What
Ultracode is a mode of Claude Code. Whether it is active is now sent with the session's state, which is the information Claude Code shares with remote and bridge clients (other apps connected to the same session), next to the effort level and the model.
- A new
is_ultracode_activevalue is sent throughnotifyUltracodeActiveandsettleUltracodeActive. It is skipped when it matches the value last sent. - Effort reporting now sends an object with the level and an
ultracodeActivefield. Before, only the effort level was sent. - The value is true only when
ultracodeistrueand the current model qualifies. What the model check requires was not worked out. - It is recalculated and sent when app state, settings or the model change, after a turn, when effort is reset, and when a bridge connects. A change in effort also sends an ultracode update with the metadata.
- When the state is reset,
lastReportedUltracodeActiveandlastKnownUltracodeActiveare cleared. - A change to
fastModenow also calls a handler.
Only the reporting was traced, not any visible screen.
Why
Apps connected to a session can now see whether ultracode is active, not only which effort level is set.
