What
A transcript is the saved record of a conversation. In sessions Claude Code treats as diskless, it now stops before compacting, or shrinking, the transcript file. In those sessions, the list of saved subagent transcripts also comes back empty unless a different storage method is in use.
The compaction step also takes one extra option, which is off by default.
Why
In practice, diskless sessions avoid working on transcript files on disk.
