What

Tasks in Claude Code's task list can record who owns them, extra metadata, and dependencies on other tasks (blocks and blockedBy, meaning "this task holds up that one" and "this task waits on that one"). Several places that used to drop these fields now keep them:

  • Task creation: a task created with metadata now keeps it on the stored task.
  • Rebuilding the task list from the transcript after compaction (when Claude Code shortens the conversation to save space) or on resume: owner, metadata, blocks and blockedBy are now restored through addBlocks and addBlockedBy updates. Before, blocks and blockedBy always came back empty. A dependency link is restored only when both tasks agree on it.
  • The saved task format now includes owner, blocks, blockedBy and metadata.
  • Task hand-off: applying a handed-off task now carries owner, merged metadata, and addBlocks / addBlockedBy links, filtered against task ids already handled. Before, only the description, activeForm and status were applied.
  • An update that only adds dependency links is no longer skipped.

Why

A task list that relies on ordering or ownership no longer loses that structure when the conversation is compacted, resumed or handed off, so tasks that wait on others stay marked that way.
