What

Compaction is when Claude Code shortens a long conversation by summarising it, so that it fits within the model's limit. Claude Code carries the task list through compaction. It now tries these options in order:

  • Descriptions and metadata, meaning the extra details stored with each task
  • Descriptions only, with metadata left out
  • Task names only, with descriptions left out
  • No tasks at all

Before, Claude Code tried only descriptions, and then dropped descriptions.

Why

Your tasks now come through compaction with more of their details whenever there is space for them.
