What
Compaction is when Claude Code shortens a long conversation by summarising it so it can keep going. Afterwards Claude gets a short message telling it to carry on without asking follow-up questions, including the line "Pick up the last task as if the break never happened."
That message used to be one fixed piece of text. It is now built from parts, and an experiment can insert extra guidance about resuming between the fixed sentences.
Why
This lets the wording Claude sees after compaction vary between experiment groups, so how it resumes work may differ slightly from one session to another.
