What
Claude Code can now send a quick test message to a process it talks to over a local connection and wait up to 2 seconds for an answer. From the reply it sorts the other side into one of four groups: it reads prompts passed to it, it uses an older format, it gave no answer, or it could not be reached.
Why
This is a compatibility check between Claude Code and a companion process running on the same machine.
