Unclear What behaviour this setting controls is not known.

What

An environment variable is a named value you set in your shell before starting Claude Code. CLAUDE_CODE_POLISHED_DEWDROP now overrides a configuration value that can be one of three words:

  • drop
  • block
  • off

If neither the variable nor the configuration value is set, Claude Code uses a value that is decided remotely.

Why

If you set this variable, it takes priority over both the configuration value and the remotely decided one, so you can pin the behaviour yourself.
