What
Claude Code has an internal helper that turns data into a SHA-256 hash, a short fingerprint of the content. That helper now raises a type error (ERR_INVALID_ARG_TYPE) when it is given something that is neither text nor raw bytes. Before, it hashed whatever it was handed.
Why
Bad input now fails loudly at the point where it goes wrong, instead of quietly producing a fingerprint of the wrong thing.
