What

Poll events are messages a host program, the program running Claude Code, pushes into a session. A session now accepts them only from a host that opted in.

  • The poll_event handler rejects every poll event unless the host set CLAUDE_CODE_POLL_EVENTS for the session. The host gets an error reply saying the session takes no poll events from its host because the variable was not set. This check runs before the existing check for the auto permission mode.
  • In remote sessions (CLAUDE_CODE_REMOTE true and not interactive), session notices are no longer advertised when the poll channel is active and own-events-only mode is on. The skip reason is recorded as own_events_only instead of always flag_disabled, and the debug line gains an ownEventsOnly= field.

Why

Embedding hosts that relied on sending poll events without setting CLAUDE_CODE_POLL_EVENTS will now get errors until they set it. Remote sessions in own-events-only mode stop receiving session notices.
