Unclear It is not clear whether anything in Claude Code triggers this event yet, so plugins may not receive it.
What
Plugins add features to Claude Code and can react to events. A new event, prompt.autocomplete , now sits alongside prompt.suggest . It gives a plugin the text you have typed, where your cursor is, the word being completed and where that word starts. The plugin must reply with a list of suggestions. Each suggestion has a non-empty text and can have a label and a description.
Claude Code can also now shorten over-long event arguments and results. config.describe and command.describe gain the same result shortening.
Why
This is groundwork for letting plugins suggest completions as you type.

Anthropic's note
Upstream's own release notes for v2.1.292 name something this entry names, so the two are probably about the same change. Probably: the pairing is made on a shared name rather than on the words around it.
