What

MCP servers are add-on programs that give Claude Code extra tools. Some of those tools start a task on the server that Claude Code can move to the background while work goes on.

There is now a limit on how many such tasks can be moved to the background between your messages. Once it is reached, a new task is not moved. The tool tells Claude that a cancel was sent and no result will follow. This continues for further tasks until you write again.

Why

Claude sees a clear refusal and the reason for it, and background MCP tasks cannot pile up without bound while you are not replying.
