Unclear Whether this case leads to compaction, a suggestion to switch models, or both is not stated.
What
Autocompact is when Claude Code automatically shortens the conversation once it gets too big for the model's context window, the amount of text the model can take in at once. Its check can now skip a restriction that used to always apply. Claude Code also now checks whether the most recent reply came from a model with a larger context window while the conversation is too large for the current model's window.
Why
This concerns conversations that fit a larger-context model but no longer fit the model now in use, and may change when compaction starts in that case.
