Unclear It is not clear what Claude Code does differently with a file marked as converted.

What

Git can attach attributes to files, for example to say how line endings should be handled. Claude Code now asks git for every attribute a file has instead of a fixed short list. Every path starts out marked as unspecified. A file that has a filter or working-tree-encoding attribute is now marked as converted, which means git changes its contents when writing it to disk.

Why

This can make Claude Code's handling of line endings and converted files more accurate.
