What
Auto mode lets Claude act without asking you for each step, using a classifier (an automatic safety check) to decide. Two cases now work differently:
Claude in Chrome: when a new option is set, the classifier is skipped. The action is allowed if a grant rule covers it, and otherwise you are asked.
Read-only calls: when the server-side classifier skipped a call because it only reads, the tool's own permission check is bypassed and the call is allowed.
Why
This changes which permission prompts you see in auto mode, especially when using Claude in Chrome.
