What

ANTHROPIC_CUSTOM_HEADERS is an environment variable for adding your own headers to Claude Code's requests. Claude Code already read an Authorization header from it. It now reads that header through the same shared parser it uses for the rest of the variable.

Claude Code also treats CLAUDE_CODE_REMOTE_ENVIRONMENT_TYPE set to self_hosted as a special case.

Why

This lays groundwork for remote sessions that run on infrastructure you host yourself.
