What
An environment variable is a named value set before a program starts. Claude Code now reads four new ones and adds them to the list it passes through to cloud sessions, which are Claude Code sessions run on remote machines:
CLAUDE_CODE_CCR_EARLY_SKILLS_SYNCCLAUDE_CODE_CCR_FOLD_FIRST_TURN_RESCANCLAUDE_CODE_CCR_SKIP_FRESH_MIGRATIONSCLAUDE_CODE_GROWTHBOOK_KICK_FROM_INIT
They sit next to the existing CLAUDE_CODE_CCR_EARLY_* startup switches. Each one changes what Claude Code does when it starts.
Why
These are opt-in startup options for hosted sessions. They change nothing unless the environment running the session sets them.

The writer flagged doubt
It is not clear what each variable changes when set, or what normally sets them.
