What
The prompt cache keeps recent conversation content stored so later requests can reuse it. Claude Code checks whether it is still worth keeping that cache warm. Before, the cache counted as lapsed only when it was already cold. It now also counts as lapsed when a further value, apparently an age or a size, goes past a limit.
Why
This changes when Claude Code stops trying to keep the prompt cache warm.
