What
In auto mode, a classifier, an automatic check, decides whether Claude's tool calls can run without asking you. When it refuses a call, Claude Code tells Claude why. Two cases now have their own messages:
- when a hook changed the call's input after Claude wrote it, Claude is told to retry once and, if refused again, to tell you that a
PreToolUsehook or mod is rewriting the call - when the call was not one Claude requested, and an extra condition is met, Claude is told to repeat the identical call once
Previously the second case got a generic message and there was no rewrite case.
Why
If a hook of yours rewrites tool calls, auto mode refusals caused by it are now explained to you rather than left puzzling.
Something disagreesSomething we can check disagrees with this entry, or the writer said they could not settle it.
The writer flagged doubt
It is not clear what condition triggers the repeat-once message.
