What
Claude Code can save memories, which are notes it keeps between conversations, and it periodically consolidates them. Consolidating means tidying them up and merging related notes. The instructions it follows for this used to have two versions. One of them, chosen when a setting was on, ended with a phase called "Prune" and left out indexing. That version is gone. The final phase is now always "Phase 4 - Prune and index", and the guidance on how to label each type of memory is always included.
Why
Everyone now gets the same consolidation instructions, and the step that indexes saved memories always runs as part of the tidy-up.
