What
/desktop continues your current session in the Claude Code Desktop app. When that handoff fails, Claude Code now reports one of three reasons:
the desktop app is not installed
the desktop app is outdated
the desktop app could not be opened
The error text also changed. It used to say "Open Claude Desktop and run /desktop again." It now says "Open Claude Desktop and try again."
Why
You learn what went wrong instead of getting one general failure. The new wording no longer assumes you started the handoff by typing /desktop, so the same message works when the handoff is started some other way.
