What
Compaction is when Claude Code frees up room in a long conversation by summarising it. The spinner, the animated status line shown while Claude works, used to show a percentage for how far compaction had got. That percentage has been removed.
The spinner can also show that Claude seems stalled, and a rule decides when to hold that back. That rule now depends on a different condition, and it applies only while Claude is not responding.

You no longer see a progress figure while compaction runs.
