What
MCP servers are add-on programs that give Claude Code extra tools. A tool call that runs long can become a background task, which keeps running while you carry on. When the server sends progress updates for such a call, Claude Code now shows them on the task's status line, at a limited rate. The status shows:
A percentage, when the server says how much work there is in total
Otherwise the server's own status message
Otherwise "Processing…" followed by a count
