What
Claude Code keeps a record of installed plugins in a file called installed_plugins.json. claude plugin list now prints a note in two cases:
- The file could not be read and was rebuilt
- Install records under names that no version of Claude Code can use were removed
Each note says where the old data is kept.
Why
If plugins seem to have disappeared, the list now tells you why and where to find what was there before.

The entry above is what we published on the day. These lines were added later, as Anthropic's own pages caught up, and they sit beside the original rather than replacing it.

A small documentation edit on Marketplace reference touched a line naming claude plugin list after this was published.
When a registered marketplace stops loading because its name imitates an official one, `claude plugin list` and `/plugin` report `Claude Code refuses the marketplace name "<name>"`. The message tells you to remove the marketplace. Removing…plugins/marketplace-reference see the edit

If a marketplace was registered under such a name before the check blocked it, the marketplace and the plugins installed from it stop loading, because Claude Code checks the name every time it reads the marketplace's catalog. When the name…errors see the edit
