When you install a plugin, Claude Code also works out every plugin it depends on. If any plugin ID in that set does not match the required ID format, the install now fails with the reason unrecordable-plugin-id, and you see an error message about it.
Why
This stops the installer from writing plugin IDs into your settings that it could not record correctly.
