What
MCP servers (add-on programs that give Claude extra tools and data) can attach metadata to the content they return. Claude Code still forwards that metadata as the server sent it, but now removes any keys starting with com.anthropic/, a prefix Claude Code reserves for itself. If nothing is left after that, the metadata is dropped entirely.
This applies both to content items and to resources read with mcp_read_resource.
Why
An MCP server can no longer pass off its own metadata as if Claude Code had set it, which matters to programs built on Claude Code that read that metadata.
