A linked worktree is an extra checkout of a repository made with git worktree add. When a cloud session is started from a local repository, Claude Code used to refuse linked worktrees unless an internal switch allowed them. It now accepts them on macOS and Linux and refuses them only on other platforms.
Two further checks come with this:
- the sync is refused if a settings file's
envsets git directory variables - while preparing what to send, Claude Code re-reads the repository's shared git folder and gives up if it changed or was tampered with
Why
If you start cloud sessions from a git worktree checkout on a Mac or Linux machine, you should no longer be turned away. The new checks keep a changed or redirected git setup from being sent.
