In a shell, ~ is shorthand for your home folder. New patterns detect a ~ in a command's arguments in these places:
- right after
= - right after
: - inside a brace expression (a
{...}group the shell expands into several words)
Why
These are places where ~ is easy to overlook when reading a command, so they can now be told apart from ordinary text.
