A subagent is a helper that Claude starts to work on part of a task. Its thinking is the reasoning text the model writes before answering. In non-interactive sessions, meaning runs with no one typing at a prompt, Claude Code adjusts how a subagent's thinking is displayed.
When the session runs on a remote worker, the display is now always set to "omitted", even if the session asked for a different display. Elsewhere nothing changes: a display the session set explicitly still wins.
