When Claude Code opens an output file and the path goes through a symlink (a shortcut that points to another location), it checks where the link leads. If that check cannot be repeated because the target changed during the open, Claude Code now tries once more. If that also fails, it stops with the error "output leaf changed during open" rather than carrying on. An earlier check that returned early with no result was removed.
Why
