A tool call is a single action Claude takes, such as running a command. Normally its result is saved in the session's history. There are two new placeholder results for when it was not saved:
- Interrupted: the session ended before the result was saved.
- Copied: the session was forked (copied into a new session) before the result was saved.
Both tell the model the outcome is unknown and that it should check whether the action happened before relying on it or running it again. Resuming a session now also passes hostAnswerableToolUseIds.
Why
After a crash, an exit or a copy, Claude is less likely to repeat an action that already happened, such as running the same command twice, or to assume one worked when it did not.
