When Claude Code reads a PDF, it now logs a telemetry event named cli_pdf_read. Telemetry is usage data Claude Code reports about itself. The event records:
request: whether a page range or the whole file was asked for
render
outcome, such as ok, unsupported_model or threw
file_bytes
document_pages
pages_rendered
duration_ms
Why
This adds reporting on PDF reads, including how they end and how long they take. It does not change how PDFs are read.
