Laptop sync has a new check for when the integrated branch differs from your laptop's branch. It counts the commits between the two branch heads. A branch head is the latest saved change on a branch. If the laptop branch matches refs/heads/<branch> and neither side has changes the other lacks, sync no longer switches to its integrated-branch path. If the heads cannot be compared, it reports "could not compare heads".
Why
When your laptop's branch is already level with the other one, sync can carry on normally instead of taking the fallback route.
