What
Bedrock and Vertex are the Amazon and Google cloud services Claude Code can use to reach the model. When their setup wizards finish successfully, the confirmation screen now says "Press Enter to restart Claude Code." It shows "Restarting Claude Code…" while the restart runs. The session restarts in place. The model you picked is kept only if the provider, region, project and credentials all match.
The restart is refused when:
- The session is a background session ("A background session can't restart itself.").
- You are inside the agents view.
- Work is still running in the background.
- The session has restrictions that a restart cannot carry over.
In those cases, or if the restart fails, you see "Your settings were saved - restart Claude Code to apply them."
Why
You no longer have to quit and relaunch Claude Code yourself after setting up Bedrock or Vertex. If the fallback message appears, your settings are saved but only take effect after you restart manually.
