6767 Claude Code includes additional helper agents for specific tasks. These are typically invoked automatically, so you don't need to use them directly.

455455#### Permission modes
456456
457The `permissionMode` field controls how the subagent handles permission prompts. Subagents inherit the permission context from the main conversation and can override the mode, except in the cases described below.
457Set `permissionMode` to choose the permission mode a subagent runs in. Use the modes' config values, so Manual mode is `default`. If you leave it unset, the subagent inherits the main conversation's mode, which starts as [auto mode](/docs/en/permission-modes#eliminate-prompts-with-auto-mode) on Pro, Max, and Team plans unless your settings or your organization change it. Setting it overrides that mode, except in the cases described below.
458458
459459| Mode | Behavior |
460460| :------------------ | :------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
461| `default` | Standard permission checking with prompts |
461| `default` | Manual mode: prompts for permission |
462462| `acceptEdits` | Auto-accept file edits and common filesystem commands for paths in the working directory or `additionalDirectories` |
463463| `auto` | [Auto mode](/docs/en/permission-modes#eliminate-prompts-with-auto-mode): a background classifier reviews commands and protected-directory writes |
464464| `dontAsk` | Auto-deny permission prompts. Explicitly allowed tools still work; `AskUserQuestion`, connector tools [your organization set to `ask`](/docs/en/mcp#organization-controls-on-connector-tools), and MCP tools marked [`requiresUserInteraction`](/docs/en/mcp#require-approval-for-a-specific-tool) are denied even if you've allowed them |
