claude-science/admin-controls Changed · +3 / -3 lines

from line 61
6161
6262Turning on the **Claude Science** capability in a role also turns on the seven under it, and you can then turn off the ones that role shouldn't have. Any capability whose control your organization can't turn on stays off. Turning the **Claude Science** capability off turns them all off. A role whose **Capability access** setting is **All capabilities** already includes all seven. A role set to **All generally available** gets them when you turn on its **Claude Science** capability (see [Who gets access after you enable](/docs/claude-science/enable-claude-science#who-gets-access-after-you-enable)).
6363
64<Note>
65 Giving a custom role the **Claude Science** capability gives its members the app. For skills from claude.ai and your organization's plugins to reach those members, their custom roles also need one of the capability options listed under [Organization skills](#organization-skills).

6767
6868For a member whose custom roles don't include a capability, the feature behaves as it does when you turn its control off (see [How changes reach members](#how-changes-reach-members)). The setting is grayed out in the Claude Science app, and what the member set up earlier is kept. To give that member the feature, turn on the capability in one of their roles. A change to a role's capabilities can take up to 15 minutes to reach members, and then applies on the member's next turn or request.

44
55In Claude Science, an artifact is a file Claude saves into the project: a figure, processed dataset, report, notebook, or other output. Artifacts are stored on your computer in the app's data folder and persist until you delete them. Other files Claude writes during a session are temporary and are cleared a few hours after the session ends; ask Claude to save a scratch file if you want to keep it.
66
7<Note>
8 If you use artifacts in a claude.ai chat rather than the Claude Science app, see [What are artifacts and how do I use them?](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/17153992-what-are-artifacts-and-how-do-i-use-them) in the help center instead.

44
5<Update label="0.1.63" description="October 14, 2026">
6 * Tabs in the right pane are now all one width, and the tab you're viewing always shows its close button
7 * Newly saved artifacts now list more of their input files in Provenance when the code that created them read many files
8 * Linux: Claude Science now detects an NVIDIA GPU only if `nvidia-smi` can run without your `LD_LIBRARY_PATH` and is in `/usr/bin` or one of a few other fixed folders (`/usr/local/bin` isn't one). Otherwise the app finds no GPU, and the **Host GPU** switch in **Settings > Compute** is hidden unless it's already on
9 * Linux: a uv, conda, mamba, or pixi environment in a folder you've granted is now read-only to Claude when its files are shared with the tool's package cache (the usual case). Claude can still run code from it but can't add, update, or remove packages in it. The rest of the folder usually stays writable
10 * Various bug fixes and security improvements
11</Update>
12
13<Update label="0.1.62" description="October 13, 2026">
14 * Linux: if Claude Science won't start after updating to 0.1.61, run `claude-science update` in a terminal to get 0.1.62 or later, then start it again. If it's still running and the "Update available" notice shows "restart aborted", select "Check for updates" in **Settings > General > About** so it finds the newer version, then "Restart to update"
15 * Linux: Claude Science starts again when bubblewrap or socat comes from conda, Homebrew, or a folder in your home directory. 0.1.61's requirement that both be installed for the whole system is withdrawn for now, though installing them that way is still recommended
16 * Fixed the app sometimes becoming unresponsive after Claude saves results from an analysis that read large files
17 * Various bug fixes and security improvements
18</Update>
19
20<Update label="0.1.61" description="October 13, 2026">
21 * Sessions you start in the Example project now show on the home screen
22 * A GitHub token you paste in **Settings > Credentials** now stays after a restart, instead of switching back to the token found on your computer; if yours switched back, paste it again
23 * Linux: fixed Featured connectors that run on your computer sometimes failing to start right after your first sign-in
24 * Linux: Claude Science now needs bubblewrap and socat installed for the whole system, from your distribution's packages or by an administrator. If yours came from conda, Homebrew, or a folder in your home directory, the app refuses to start and its message says what to do
25 * Windows: Claude Science is now signed with a renewed certificate from the same publisher, Anthropic, PBC. If your IT team allows the app by certificate thumbprint, add the new SHA-1 thumbprint `60C2D9C51F09822FFF4F194DE9EEDB67451292D1` and keep the previous one, both listed under [Windows signing certificate](/docs/claude-science/manage-on-devices#windows-signing-certificate)
26 * Security hardening of the analysis sandbox on Mac, Windows, and Linux
27 * Various bug fixes and security improvements
28</Update>
29
30<Update label="0.1.60" description="October 7, 2026">
31 * Mac: fixed a problem introduced in 0.1.59 where Python, R, and some shell commands could fail to run when Claude Science has access to many folders
32 * **Settings > Network > Package mirror** now shows a mirror credential file your organization deployed, instead of asking for a token
33</Update>
34
35<Update label="0.1.59" description="October 6, 2026">
36 * Saved approvals for tools from your organization's plugins are cleared, so Claude asks again; new approvals apply only to the plugin that added the tool
37 * Skills from plugins your organization's admin uploads now appear under Organization in **Settings > Skills**, instead of under Featured
38 * Comment boxes on figures, PDFs, reports, and files now grow as you type, and a new comment that fails to save keeps your text and shows an error
39 * Fixed some files failing to upload when you add hundreds of files to a message at once
40 * `claude-science --here` now refuses to start on a data folder another install created if it holds organization policy files or folders that Claude Science creates for itself; if the folder is yours, run it once with `--trust-here-data`
41 * Security hardening of the analysis sandbox on Mac, Windows, and Linux
42 * Various bug fixes and security improvements
43</Update>
44
45<Update label="0.1.56" description="October 2, 2026">
46 * When safeguards flag a message for life sciences content, Claude Science can now retry it once on another model automatically, depending on the model; turn this off with **Switch models when a message is flagged** in **Settings > General > Model**
47 * Excel (.xlsx) previews now show cell colors, bold text, and color-scale heat maps
48 * Reviewer findings now open in place, with a button to the reviewer's full transcript
49 * A stalled file upload now stops by itself, and a failed upload says why under the file
50 * Skills: "Check for updates…" now lists only the imported skills whose files changed
51 * Claude now asks before it uses a tool from a connector that your organization's plugins add
52 * Fixed a case where the app could delete a skill from your computer when it started
53 * Windows: zoom the app window with Ctrl+Plus and Ctrl+Minus, and reset it with Ctrl+0
54 * Windows: IT teams can now deploy package mirror credentials as a `.netrc` file, as on Mac and Linux
55 * Mac: the app now applies only a fixed list of variables from the `env` file in the data folder; move a GitHub token to **Settings > Credentials**
56 * Admins can now turn off Claude's web search tool with `enable_web_search = false` in `config.toml`
57 * Security hardening of the analysis sandbox on Mac, Windows, and Linux
58 * Various bug fixes and security improvements
59</Update>
60
61<Update label="0.1.55" description="September 29, 2026">
62 * New sessions on an organization's default model with more life sciences restrictions now show a notice with a one-click switch to another model
63 * Fixed an error Claude ran into when outlining an existing multi-panel figure or drafting a paper's brief from its abstract and figure captions
64</Update>
65
66<Update label="0.1.54" description="September 28, 2026">
67 * Sessions on Claude Sonnet 5.5 now default to Extra high reasoning effort
68 * Windows: after an update, the app window reopens on the new version by itself
69 * Pinned artifacts (formerly starred) and pinned projects now show a pushpin instead of a star
70 * Editing a Markdown table cell now outlines the cell itself instead of opening a box over it
71 * The app starts much faster with a long list of allowed domains
72 * Security hardening of the analysis sandbox on Mac, Windows, and Linux
73 * Various bug fixes and security improvements
74</Update>
75
76<Update label="0.1.53" description="September 24, 2026">
77 * Paste a list of domains in **Settings > Network** to allow them all at once
78 * In Markdown files, editing table cells in place now works in files with up to 2,500 table cells, however long their text
79 * **Settings > Connectors**: a Featured connector that was turned off during setup now shows as off, and turning it back on lets Claude use it again
80 * Hover over a tab in the right pane to see the file's full name
81 * Mac: fixed a case where code cells didn't run because Claude wrote the folder's name in a different letter case or accent form than on disk
82 * Mac: security hardening of the analysis sandbox
83 * Various bug fixes and security improvements
84</Update>
85
86<Update label="0.1.52" description="September 22, 2026">
87 * Clicking a figure in Claude's answer now opens it beside the chat; Ctrl/Cmd-click or the new "Open fullscreen" button opens it full screen
88 * Opening or closing the right pane now keeps your place in a long answer
89 * Markdown files no longer rotate in Safari after they load
90 * The reviewer no longer flags working figure links in saved reports as broken
91 * When Claude sets a Python, R, or shell cell to run in a folder other than the session's workspace, its permission card now shows that folder
92 * "Download script" and "Download notebook" now give the input and output files in the zip plain names: spaces, brackets, and other special characters become underscores
93 * Various bug fixes and security improvements
94</Update>
95
96<Update label="0.1.51" description="September 22, 2026">
97 * Pinned sessions (formerly starred) from across all your projects now appear at the top of the session list; a new switch in **Settings > General > Appearance** lets you limit them to the open project
98 * In Markdown files, click a plain-text cell in a table to edit it in place
99 * Tables in Markdown files keep their scroll position when Claude saves another file
100 * Fixed the BioMart connector's data queries and identifier translation; a data query that filters on more than a few hundred IDs can still fail
101 * The BioMart connector now reads from Ensembl's June 2026 archive. If your network allowlist lists `www.ensembl.org` by name, add `jun2026.archive.ensembl.org`
102 * Removed connector tools that failed on every call: the ENCODE and eQTL Catalogue lookups and ZINC's random-sample tool
103 * "Download script" on an artifact made by a shell command now includes the script itself
104 * The app stays more responsive while Claude saves files in projects with tens of thousands of files, and zip downloads with thousands of same-named files are prepared much faster
105 * Mac: security hardening of the analysis sandbox
106 * Life Sciences Verification Program (beta): fixed a case where your approved use cases could disappear from the app
107 * Various bug fixes and security improvements
108</Update>
109
110<Update label="0.1.50" description="September 17, 2026">
111 * Tables in Markdown files now show as a compact grid; a long table keeps its header row in view, and row labels stay in view when you scroll sideways
112 * Tabs in the right pane can be reordered by dragging, or with Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+Left/Right
113 * Pasted images are now saved to your uploads, so Claude can keep working with them later in the conversation
114 * When Claude redraws a figure several times in one turn, the chat keeps only the newest one open; open an earlier step to see its draft
115 * Closing Settings or Customize by clicking outside it no longer drops an edit you were still typing
116 * "View in context" on a file version that a different session saved now opens the file's own session instead of an empty screen
117 * Project settings are now clearer with helper text
118 * Home screen: project rows now show running sessions in gray like the session cards
119</Update>
120
121<Update label="0.1.49" description="September 16, 2026">
122 * If your organization is in Anthropic's Life Sciences Verification Program (beta), you can now [choose a use case](/docs/claude-science/safeguards#choose-a-use-case) for your sessions
123 * Saved credentials now reach Claude's code only when it asks for them and you approve. They're no longer present in every cell
124 * Access Claude Science work saved on your computer from other sign-ins, from Home or Settings. Admins control it on Team and Enterprise plans
125 * Claude can send you a short message, such as a link to a file, while it keeps working on a task
126 * Mac: Apple silicon Macs with the Intel version installed can now update, and then run natively
127 * Mac: if Claude's tools can't start after an Xcode update, the error now says how to accept the Xcode license
128 * You can comment on and bookmark the short summaries of Claude's progress notes
129 * Sessions moved to a model with a smaller context window keep going instead of failing
130 * Turning Auto-review off now applies to agents that are already running; turning it back on resumes their reviews
131 * Settings > Connectors shows "Not set" for tools without a permission, and saves "Ask each time"
132 * Windows: `claude-science install` now reports the step that failed instead of reporting success
133 * Faster search of a long session's history; clearer wording in model settings
134</Update>
135
136<Update label="0.1.48" description="September 14, 2026">
137 * On Windows, environment setup now handles user folders with accented or non-Latin names, tries again if Windows briefly refuses to start the environment installer, and no longer needs the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable
138 * The app now warns you a few days before your sign-in expires and offers a "Sign in again" button
139 * Various bug fixes and security improvements
140</Update>
141
142<Update label="0.1.47" description="September 10, 2026">
143 * Claude Science is now available for Windows: download it from [claude.com/product/claude-science](https://claude.com/product/claude-science), and see [Get started](/docs/claude-science/get-started) for setup
144 * Various bug fixes and improvements
145</Update>
146
147<Update label="0.1.43" description="August 31, 2026">
148 * On Linux, commands, notebook cells, and local connectors work again on systems with bubblewrap's recent security update
149 * Cloud storage in Settings (Amazon S3, S3-compatible services, and Google Cloud Storage with HMAC keys) now works behind a TLS-inspecting proxy such as Zscaler or Netskope, trusting the same corporate root certificate as sign-in and the Claude API
150 * Various bug fixes and security improvements
151</Update>
152
153<Update label="0.1.41" description="August 27, 2026">
154 * Messages now show when they were sent: hover one of your messages to see the time, and Claude's replies show it next to their copy and feedback buttons
155 * Reviewer findings now appear as cards directly under the message they refer to, instead of a single summary card; click a card to open the reviewer's reasoning
156 * When a connector's sign-in expires mid-session, Claude now tells you which connector to reconnect, and Settings > Connectors shows "Sign-in expired" with a Reconnect button
157 * Choosing a model whose safeguards block most life sciences research now shows a short warning first, with a one-click switch to an alternative model
158 * Sessions on Claude Opus 5 now stay focused on what you asked for, with fewer unrequested analyses, figures, and sub-agents
159 * On macOS behind a TLS-inspecting proxy (such as Zscaler or Netskope), Python, pip, curl, and git inside a session now trust the same corporate root certificate that environment builds already use
160 * Tab-separated (.tsv) files open as tables, and the 3D structure viewer follows dark mode and opens small-molecule files (SDF, MOL2, XYZ, and similar) in stick view
161 * First-time setup now includes a memory step, with memory on unless you switch it off there; existing installs keep their current setting (change it anytime under Settings > Memory)
162 * Security hardening across the analysis sandbox and credential handling on macOS and Linux
163 * Lots of other miscellaneous improvements and fixes
164</Update>
165
166<Update label="0.1.27" description="August 7, 2026">
167 * On macOS, installs that showed an environment setup error in their first session now repair themselves automatically after updating; the Featured connectors become available once the repair finishes, which can take a few minutes
168 * Star a session from its menu to keep it in a Starred section at the top of your project's session list
169 * Get notified when any of your sessions finishes or needs your input, even while you work in another project. In-app notifications are on by default; sound and desktop notifications are under Settings > General > Notifications
170 * Set reasoning effort for a single session from the session options next to the message box; the value in Settings stays the default for new sessions
171 * On Pro and Max plans, see your credit balance and monthly spend limit and turn usage credits on or off under Settings > Usage
172 * When you ask for a plan, Claude now waits for your approval before running code or marking steps done
173 * Lots of other miscellaneous improvements and fixes
174</Update>
175
176<Update label="0.1.21" description="July 21, 2026">
177 **New**
178
179 * **Improved context preservation.** On Max, Team, and Enterprise plans, sessions go much further before older messages are summarized.
180 * **Works on corporate networks.** Sign in and install packages on networks with corporate proxies, TLS inspection, or authenticated package mirrors. Mirror credentials go in Settings. No config files needed.
181 * **Search your memories.** Find anything Claude remembers from the memory screen. Results are highlighted and jump to where they live. The screen also loads faster now.
182 * **Archive projects.** Tidy your project list without deleting anything; archived projects keep all their data and can be brought back anytime.
183 * **Password sign-in for SSH machines.** Adding a remote machine that asks for a password instead of a key is now supported. You're prompted when it's needed, and the password is never saved to disk.
184 * **Compute monitor.** See every running kernel with its memory and CPU use from the new Compute tab. Kernels can be stopped if needed with optional feedback sent to the agent such as "redo this analysis using less memory".
185
186 **Improvements and fixes**
187
188 * **Richer artifact previews.** HTML files show rendered thumbnails, Word documents show text previews, large CSVs show their structure, and PDFs show their first page.
189 * **Parquet files open as tables.** See a parquet file's columns and first rows right in the app, even for very large files.
190 * **Memories stay in their project.** Notes from one project no longer surface in another.
191 * **Annotations travel with your message.** Annotations you've added appear above the message box and carry over when you open a side chat.
192 * **Less disk space for huge files.** When Claude saves the same very large file over and over, it can now keep just the latest version instead of every copy.
193 * **The conversation view holds still.** Images no longer shove the page as they load, "View in context" lands on the right message, and mentioning a file always attaches the right one.
194 * **Edit messages with attachments.** Editing an earlier message now supports file mentions, attachments, and uploads.
195 * **Many other miscellaneous fixes and improvements.**
196</Update>
197
198<Update label="0.1.18" description="July 9, 2026">
199 **Features**
200
201 * Sessions now pause and ask for your confirmation before spending extra usage. Billed usage credits are never drawn on a dismissible warning alone.
202 * Claude can now monitor how much memory and processing power its computations are using, and plan its work accordingly.
203 * Search from inside a project: the project view now has a search button that opens the same search as Cmd+K.
204 * Download any artifact from any surface: every artifact menu now includes a download option.
205 * Starred artifacts now pin to a new Starred section at the top of the Library, with a star badge.
206
207 **Fixes**
208
209 * Fixed a crash that could prevent very large sessions from loading.
210 * Fixed several ways a running session could stall or stop early, including long thinking pauses being cut off mid-run and sessions resuming incorrectly after a crash.
211 * Fixed the app sometimes becoming unresponsive after an automatic update.
212 * Code blocks now switch correctly when your system switches between light and dark mode.
213 * Lots of other miscellaneous improvements and fixes.
214</Update>
215
216<Update label="0.1.17" description="July 8, 2026">
217 * **Fixed a bug where idle sessions were consuming usage.**
218 * Lots of other miscellaneous improvements and fixes.

220
221<Update label="0.1.16" description="July 7, 2026">
222 **Features**
223
224 * Auto-review is now available on the Pro plan: turn it on from the session settings, and it stays off until you do.
225 * Artifact previews: zoom HTML artifacts (including fit to width), zoom images to native resolution, and choose which version an artifact diff compares against
226 * Import skills from private GitHub repositories using your own GitHub credentials
227 * LaTeX previews now resolve cross-references — \ref, \eqref, and section numbering render the way your document intended
228 * Dashboard upgrades: a project switcher with live per-project status, project names on the "Now" cards, a visible search button, and ⌘K search now matches project descriptions too
229 * Annotate artifacts faster: drag image annotation pins to reposition them, and use @/# mentions in annotation comments
230
231 **Fixes**

233 * Pasted attachments no longer disappear before their first use, very large text and JSON previews no longer freeze the tab, and a stale usage-limit banner now clears itself once your usage limit resets
234 * Cloning a repo or unpacking an archive no longer floods the chat with every image it contains
235 * The Reviewer no longer gets stuck on "Reviewing…" or hides its findings tray
236 * Flaky read-only connector tool calls now retry once automatically instead of failing your turn, and connector setup errors tell you what's actually wrong
237 * A corrupt pasted image no longer breaks the transcript
238 * Upgrading with a very large history database no longer fails partway through
239 * Fixed a crash when the browser's auto-translate feature modified the page

244 * Corporate networks: environment builds now work behind TLS-inspecting proxies (such as Zscaler or Netskope). On macOS, corporate root CAs in your keychain are picked up automatically for conda/pip package downloads; on macOS or Linux you can also point at a CA-bundle file under Settings > Network > Package mirror. The mirror card's Check button now verifies TLS trust with the same bundle the builds use. (In-session `pip`/`curl` and the Desktop app's guest-VM builds are not covered)
245 * Package mirrors: point conda and pip at your organization's internal mirror (Artifactory/Nexus) via Settings > Network > Package mirror. Setting a mirror also drops the public package hosts from the sandbox network allowlist
246 * OpenAlex now requires a free API key for full-text access. Claude Science resolves access automatically or asks you in the session when a key is needed; you can also add and validate a key anytime under Settings > Credentials
247 * New Context usage view: see how full a session's context window is and where tokens go, from the + menu in the composer
248 * Lots of other miscellaneous improvements and fixes

252 * Public launch of Claude Science
253</Update>
5**0.1.67**
6
7* The Example project now holds nine new example sessions from various scientific fields
8* If Claude Science opens in its own window, on Windows or on a Mac, you can now search the page you're on with Ctrl+F (Cmd+F on a Mac)
9* The Genomes connector's five UCSC Genome Browser tools and the Regulation connector's UniBind region lookup are unavailable for now
10* Pictures in Claude's messages that point at another port or path of the address Claude Science is open on (such as localhost:8888) no longer load; save them as files to show them
11* Files whose names Windows treats as shortcuts or themes (.url, .website, .lnk, .pif, .library-ms, .searchConnector-ms, .theme, and desktop.ini) are now downloaded and exported with .txt added to the name. If you trust the file, remove .txt from its name to get the shortcut back
12* Leaving setup without starting a first task no longer leaves an empty "Getting started" project behind (if the app reloads or restarts during setup, the empty project can still remain)
13* Linux: Claude's requests to delete an ordinary file in a folder you've granted are no longer refused while a session is running just because a protected file such as `.env` sits deeper in the same folder
14* Bug fixes and reliability improvements
15
16**0.1.66**
17
18* Bug fixes and reliability improvements
19
20**0.1.63**
21
22* Tabs in the right pane are now all one width, and the tab you're viewing always shows its close button
23* Newly saved artifacts now list more of their input files in Provenance when the code that created them read many files
24* Linux: Claude Science now detects an NVIDIA GPU only if `nvidia-smi` can run without your `LD_LIBRARY_PATH` and is in `/usr/bin` or one of a few other fixed folders (`/usr/local/bin` isn't one). Otherwise the app finds no GPU, and the **Host GPU** switch in **Settings > Compute** is hidden unless it's already on
25* Linux: a uv, conda, mamba, or pixi environment in a folder you've granted is now read-only to Claude when its files are shared with the tool's package cache (the usual case). Claude can still run code from it but can't add, update, or remove packages in it. The rest of the folder usually stays writable
26* Various bug fixes and security improvements
27
28**0.1.62**
29
30* Linux: if Claude Science won't start after updating to 0.1.61, run `claude-science update` in a terminal to get 0.1.62 or later, then start it again. If it's still running and the "Update available" notice shows "restart aborted", select "Check for updates" in **Settings > General > About** so it finds the newer version, then "Restart to update"
31* Linux: Claude Science starts again when bubblewrap or socat comes from conda, Homebrew, or a folder in your home directory. 0.1.61's requirement that both be installed for the whole system is withdrawn for now, though installing them that way is still recommended
32* Fixed the app sometimes becoming unresponsive after Claude saves results from an analysis that read large files
33* Various bug fixes and security improvements
34
35**0.1.61**
36
37* Sessions you start in the Example project now show on the home screen
38* A GitHub token you paste in **Settings > Credentials** now stays after a restart, instead of switching back to the token found on your computer; if yours switched back, paste it again
39* Linux: fixed Featured connectors that run on your computer sometimes failing to start right after your first sign-in
40* Linux: Claude Science now needs bubblewrap and socat installed for the whole system, from your distribution's packages or by an administrator. If yours came from conda, Homebrew, or a folder in your home directory, the app refuses to start and its message says what to do
41* Windows: Claude Science is now signed with a renewed certificate from the same publisher, Anthropic, PBC.
42* Security hardening of the analysis sandbox on Mac, Windows, and Linux
43* Various bug fixes and security improvements
44
45**0.1.60**
46
47* Mac: fixed a problem introduced in 0.1.59 where Python, R, and some shell commands could fail to run when Claude Science has access to many folders
48* **Settings > Network > Package mirror** now shows a mirror credential file your organization deployed, instead of asking for a token
49
50**0.1.59**
51
52* Saved approvals for tools from your organization's plugins are cleared, so Claude asks again; new approvals apply only to the plugin that added the tool
53* Skills from plugins your organization's admin uploads now appear under Organization in **Settings > Skills**, instead of under Featured
54* Comment boxes on figures, PDFs, reports, and files now grow as you type, and a new comment that fails to save keeps your text and shows an error
55* Fixed some files failing to upload when you add hundreds of files to a message at once
56* `claude-science --here` now refuses to start on a data folder another install created if it holds organization policy files or folders that Claude Science creates for itself; if the folder is yours, run it once with `--trust-here-data`
57* Security hardening of the analysis sandbox on Mac, Windows, and Linux
58* Various bug fixes and security improvements
59
60**0.1.56**
61
62* When safeguards flag a message for life sciences content, Claude Science can now retry it once on another model automatically, depending on the model; turn this off with **Switch models when a message is flagged** in **Settings > General > Model**
63* Excel (.xlsx) previews now show cell colors, bold text, and color-scale heat maps
64* Reviewer findings now open in place, with a button to the reviewer's full transcript
65* A stalled file upload now stops by itself, and a failed upload says why under the file
66* Skills: "Check for updates…" now lists only the imported skills whose files changed
67* Claude now asks before it uses a tool from a connector that your organization's plugins add
68* Fixed a case where the app could delete a skill from your computer when it started
69* Windows: zoom the app window with Ctrl+Plus and Ctrl+Minus, and reset it with Ctrl+0
70* Windows: IT teams can now deploy package mirror credentials as a `.netrc` file, as on Mac and Linux
71* Mac: the app now applies only a fixed list of variables from the `env` file in the data folder; move a GitHub token to **Settings > Credentials**
72* Admins can now turn off Claude's web search tool with `enable_web_search = false` in `config.toml`
73* Security hardening of the analysis sandbox on Mac, Windows, and Linux
74* Various bug fixes and security improvements
75
76**0.1.55**
77
78* New sessions on an organization's default model with more life sciences restrictions now show a notice with a one-click switch to another model
79* Fixed an error Claude ran into when outlining an existing multi-panel figure or drafting a paper's brief from its abstract and figure captions
80
81**0.1.54**
82
83* Sessions on Claude Sonnet 5.5 now default to Extra high reasoning effort
84* Windows: after an update, the app window reopens on the new version by itself
85* Pinned artifacts (formerly starred) and pinned projects now show a pushpin instead of a star
86* Editing a Markdown table cell now outlines the cell itself instead of opening a box over it
87* The app starts much faster with a long list of allowed domains
88* Security hardening of the analysis sandbox on Mac, Windows, and Linux
89* Various bug fixes and security improvements
90
91**0.1.53**
92
93* Paste a list of domains in **Settings > Network** to allow them all at once
94* In Markdown files, editing table cells in place now works in files with up to 2,500 table cells, however long their text
95* **Settings > Connectors**: a Featured connector that was turned off during setup now shows as off, and turning it back on lets Claude use it again
96* Hover over a tab in the right pane to see the file's full name
97* Mac: fixed a case where code cells didn't run because Claude wrote the folder's name in a different letter case or accent form than on disk
98* Mac: security hardening of the analysis sandbox
99* Various bug fixes and security improvements
100
101**0.1.52**
102
103* Clicking a figure in Claude's answer now opens it beside the chat; Ctrl/Cmd-click or the new "Open fullscreen" button opens it full screen
104* Opening or closing the right pane now keeps your place in a long answer
105* Markdown files no longer rotate in Safari after they load
106* The reviewer no longer flags working figure links in saved reports as broken
107* When Claude sets a Python, R, or shell cell to run in a folder other than the session's workspace, its permission card now shows that folder
108* "Download script" and "Download notebook" now give the input and output files in the zip plain names: spaces, brackets, and other special characters become underscores
109* Various bug fixes and security improvements
110
111**0.1.51**
112
113* Pinned sessions (formerly starred) from across all your projects now appear at the top of the session list; a new switch in **Settings > General > Appearance** lets you limit them to the open project
114* In Markdown files, click a plain-text cell in a table to edit it in place
115* Tables in Markdown files keep their scroll position when Claude saves another file
116* Fixed the BioMart connector's data queries and identifier translation; a data query that filters on more than a few hundred IDs can still fail
117* The BioMart connector now reads from Ensembl's June 2026 archive. If your network allowlist lists `www.ensembl.org` by name, add `jun2026.archive.ensembl.org`
118* Removed connector tools that failed on every call: the ENCODE and eQTL Catalogue lookups and ZINC's random-sample tool
119* "Download script" on an artifact made by a shell command now includes the script itself
120* The app stays more responsive while Claude saves files in projects with tens of thousands of files, and zip downloads with thousands of same-named files are prepared much faster
121* Mac: security hardening of the analysis sandbox
122* Life Sciences Verification Program (beta): fixed a case where your approved use cases could disappear from the app
123* Various bug fixes and security improvements
124
125**0.1.50**
126
127* Tables in Markdown files now show as a compact grid; a long table keeps its header row in view, and row labels stay in view when you scroll sideways
128* Tabs in the right pane can be reordered by dragging, or with Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+Left/Right
129* Pasted images are now saved to your uploads, so Claude can keep working with them later in the conversation
130* When Claude redraws a figure several times in one turn, the chat keeps only the newest one open; open an earlier step to see its draft
131* Closing Settings or Customize by clicking outside it no longer drops an edit you were still typing
132* "View in context" on a file version that a different session saved now opens the file's own session instead of an empty screen
133* Project settings are now clearer with helper text
134* Home screen: project rows now show running sessions in gray like the session cards
135
136**0.1.49**
137
138* If your organization is in Anthropic's Life Sciences Verification Program (beta), you can now [choose a use case](/docs/claude-science/safeguards#choose-a-use-case) for your sessions
139* Saved credentials now reach Claude's code only when it asks for them and you approve. They're no longer present in every cell
140* Access Claude Science work saved on your computer from other sign-ins, from Home or Settings. Admins control it on Team and Enterprise plans
141* Claude can send you a short message, such as a link to a file, while it keeps working on a task
142* Mac: Apple silicon Macs with the Intel version installed can now update, and then run natively
143* Mac: if Claude's tools can't start after an Xcode update, the error now says how to accept the Xcode license
144* You can comment on and bookmark the short summaries of Claude's progress notes
145* Sessions moved to a model with a smaller context window keep going instead of failing
146* Turning Auto-review off now applies to agents that are already running; turning it back on resumes their reviews
147* Settings > Connectors shows "Not set" for tools without a permission, and saves "Ask each time"
148* Windows: `claude-science install` now reports the step that failed instead of reporting success
149* Faster search of a long session's history; clearer wording in model settings
150
151**0.1.48**
152
153* On Windows, environment setup now handles user folders with accented or non-Latin names, tries again if Windows briefly refuses to start the environment installer, and no longer needs the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable
154* The app now warns you a few days before your sign-in expires and offers a "Sign in again" button
155* Various bug fixes and security improvements
156
157**0.1.47**
158
159* Claude Science is now available for Windows: download it from [claude.com/product/claude-science](https://claude.com/product/claude-science), and see [Get started](/docs/claude-science/get-started) for setup
160* Various bug fixes and improvements
161
162**0.1.43**
163
164* On Linux, commands, notebook cells, and local connectors work again on systems with bubblewrap's recent security update
165* Cloud storage in Settings (Amazon S3, S3-compatible services, and Google Cloud Storage with HMAC keys) now works behind a TLS-inspecting proxy such as Zscaler or Netskope, trusting the same corporate root certificate as sign-in and the Claude API
166* Various bug fixes and security improvements
167
168**0.1.41**
169
170* Messages now show when they were sent: hover one of your messages to see the time, and Claude's replies show it next to their copy and feedback buttons
171* Reviewer findings now appear as cards directly under the message they refer to, instead of a single summary card; click a card to open the reviewer's reasoning
172* When a connector's sign-in expires mid-session, Claude now tells you which connector to reconnect, and Settings > Connectors shows "Sign-in expired" with a Reconnect button
173* Choosing a model whose safeguards block most life sciences research now shows a short warning first, with a one-click switch to an alternative model
174* Sessions on Claude Opus 5 now stay focused on what you asked for, with fewer unrequested analyses, figures, and sub-agents
175* On macOS behind a TLS-inspecting proxy (such as Zscaler or Netskope), Python, pip, curl, and git inside a session now trust the same corporate root certificate that environment builds already use
176* Tab-separated (.tsv) files open as tables, and the 3D structure viewer follows dark mode and opens small-molecule files (SDF, MOL2, XYZ, and similar) in stick view
177* First-time setup now includes a memory step, with memory on unless you switch it off there; existing installs keep their current setting (change it anytime under Settings > Memory)
178* Security hardening across the analysis sandbox and credential handling on macOS and Linux
179* Lots of other miscellaneous improvements and fixes
180
181**0.1.27**
182
183* On macOS, installs that showed an environment setup error in their first session now repair themselves automatically after updating; the Featured connectors become available once the repair finishes, which can take a few minutes
184* Star a session from its menu to keep it in a Starred section at the top of your project's session list
185* Get notified when any of your sessions finishes or needs your input, even while you work in another project. In-app notifications are on by default; sound and desktop notifications are under Settings > General > Notifications
186* Set reasoning effort for a single session from the session options next to the message box; the value in Settings stays the default for new sessions
187* On Pro and Max plans, see your credit balance and monthly spend limit and turn usage credits on or off under Settings > Usage
188* When you ask for a plan, Claude now waits for your approval before running code or marking steps done
189* Lots of other miscellaneous improvements and fixes
190
191**0.1.21**
192
193**New**
194
195* **Improved context preservation.** On Max, Team, and Enterprise plans, sessions go much further before older messages are summarized.
196* **Works on corporate networks.** Sign in and install packages on networks with corporate proxies, TLS inspection, or authenticated package mirrors. Mirror credentials go in Settings. No config files needed.
197* **Search your memories.** Find anything Claude remembers from the memory screen. Results are highlighted and jump to where they live. The screen also loads faster now.
198* **Archive projects.** Tidy your project list without deleting anything; archived projects keep all their data and can be brought back anytime.
199* **Password sign-in for SSH machines.** Adding a remote machine that asks for a password instead of a key is now supported. You're prompted when it's needed, and the password is never saved to disk.
200* **Compute monitor.** See every running kernel with its memory and CPU use from the new Compute tab. Kernels can be stopped if needed with optional feedback sent to the agent such as "redo this analysis using less memory".
201
202**Improvements and fixes**
203
204* **Richer artifact previews.** HTML files show rendered thumbnails, Word documents show text previews, large CSVs show their structure, and PDFs show their first page.
205* **Parquet files open as tables.** See a parquet file's columns and first rows right in the app, even for very large files.
206* **Memories stay in their project.** Notes from one project no longer surface in another.
207* **Annotations travel with your message.** Annotations you've added appear above the message box and carry over when you open a side chat.
208* **Less disk space for huge files.** When Claude saves the same very large file over and over, it can now keep just the latest version instead of every copy.
209* **The conversation view holds still.** Images no longer shove the page as they load, "View in context" lands on the right message, and mentioning a file always attaches the right one.
210* **Edit messages with attachments.** Editing an earlier message now supports file mentions, attachments, and uploads.
211* **Many other miscellaneous fixes and improvements.**
212
213**0.1.18**
214
215**Features**
216
217* Sessions now pause and ask for your confirmation before spending extra usage. Billed usage credits are never drawn on a dismissible warning alone.
218* Claude can now monitor how much memory and processing power its computations are using, and plan its work accordingly.
219* Search from inside a project: the project view now has a search button that opens the same search as Cmd+K.
220* Download any artifact from any surface: every artifact menu now includes a download option.
221* Starred artifacts now pin to a new Starred section at the top of the Library, with a star badge.
222
223**Fixes**
224
225* Fixed a crash that could prevent very large sessions from loading.
226* Fixed several ways a running session could stall or stop early, including long thinking pauses being cut off mid-run and sessions resuming incorrectly after a crash.
227* Fixed the app sometimes becoming unresponsive after an automatic update.
228* Code blocks now switch correctly when your system switches between light and dark mode.
229* Lots of other miscellaneous improvements and fixes.
230
231**0.1.17**
232
233* **Fixed a bug where idle sessions were consuming usage.**
234* Lots of other miscellaneous improvements and fixes.
235
236**0.1.16**
237
238**Features**
239
240* Auto-review is now available on the Pro plan: turn it on from the session settings, and it stays off until you do.
241* Artifact previews: zoom HTML artifacts (including fit to width), zoom images to native resolution, and choose which version an artifact diff compares against
242* Import skills from private GitHub repositories using your own GitHub credentials
243* LaTeX previews now resolve cross-references — \ref, \eqref, and section numbering render the way your document intended
244* Dashboard upgrades: a project switcher with live per-project status, project names on the "Now" cards, a visible search button, and ⌘K search now matches project descriptions too
245* Annotate artifacts faster: drag image annotation pins to reposition them, and use @/# mentions in annotation comments
246
247**Fixes**
248
249* Pasted attachments no longer disappear before their first use, very large text and JSON previews no longer freeze the tab, and a stale usage-limit banner now clears itself once your usage limit resets
250* Cloning a repo or unpacking an archive no longer floods the chat with every image it contains
251* The Reviewer no longer gets stuck on "Reviewing…" or hides its findings tray
252* Flaky read-only connector tool calls now retry once automatically instead of failing your turn, and connector setup errors tell you what's actually wrong
253* A corrupt pasted image no longer breaks the transcript
254* Upgrading with a very large history database no longer fails partway through
255* Fixed a crash when the browser's auto-translate feature modified the page
256* Lots of other miscellaneous improvements and fixes
257
258**0.1.15**

3030
from line 34
3434
3535If a newer build has already changed how your data directory stores sessions, the command refuses an older build and installs nothing, because an older build can permanently lose part of every session it writes to. The refusal names a flag that overrides it, `--accept-layout-downgrade`, and says when that is safe. If you cannot tell from the message whether it is safe for you, do not add the flag.
3636
37<Note>
38 An older build that does install can still refuse to start if a newer build has already updated the database in your data directory. When it does, it stops at startup and changes nothing in your data. At a terminal, it says the data was `written by a NEWER version`. To start the app again, run `claude-science update`, which installs the latest build.

4141## Global flags
4242
from line 72
7272
7373`claude-science serve` accepts two flags that each turn off a protection.
7474
75<Warning>
76 * `--dangerously-no-sandbox` turns the [sandbox](/docs/claude-science/core-concepts#sandbox) off. On macOS and Linux, the code Claude runs then has full read and write access to your home directory and unrestricted network access. On Windows, code cells do not run at all while the flag is set.

55In Claude Science, comments let you pin notes to specific parts of an artifact instead of describing a location in prose. Select text in a Markdown, plain-text, LaTeX, or code file; select text in a PDF; click a point on an image or figure; or turn on **Comment** and click an element in a rendered HTML report. You can also comment on session transcripts. You can't comment on tables or other artifact types.

On a machine with an outbound proxy, confirm with a test environment build rather than the check alone (see [Mirror traffic and your other network controls](#mirror-traffic-and-your-other-network-controls)).
59
6260The mirror must serve the standard conda channel layout, with one base URL, one directory per channel, and one per platform beneath it:
6361
6462```text theme={null}
from line 73
7573
7674Your mirror must serve at least `conda-forge` (every environment uses it) and `bioconda` for R and bioinformatics work; other channels a member requests (for example `pytorch` or `nvidia`) resolve under the same mirror base, so serve those too if needed. Anaconda's commercial `defaults` channel is rejected while a mirror is configured, so members should use `conda-forge` instead.
7775
78<Note>
79 Do not point the conda mirror at a remote repository configured for a single channel (for example one whose upstream is `https://conda.anaconda.org/conda-forge`): it returns an empty index that the check reports green while every build then fails with `nothing provides <package>`. Use a remote that proxies the conda host root (`…/artifactory/api/conda/conda-remote`), a virtual conda repository, or the conda API root with channel-named remote repositories beneath it.

8179
8280Mirror URLs must use `https://`, name a host by DNS name rather than IP address, and use port 443 or 8443, so an Artifactory instance on its stock port 8081 needs a 443 or 8443 listener or a reverse proxy in front of it. Credentials embedded in the URL are rejected at save time. The Settings page accepts `https://` mirrors only, while Claude Science also accepts an `http://` mirror from `config.toml` when `[conda] allow_insecure_mirror` is set. Validate mirror URLs before distributing a `config.toml`, since an invalid deployed value prevents the app from starting.

180178Only Basic proxy authentication, supplied in the proxy address, is supported; NTLM, Negotiate, and Kerberos proxies aren't. Claude Science doesn't evaluate PAC files on Linux or on a Mac where it opens in a browser tab, so networks that publish only a PAC or WPAD file aren't supported there. The app window on Windows and macOS follows a PAC or WPAD file as described under [System proxy settings on macOS and Windows](#system-proxy-settings-on-macos-and-windows).
181179
182<Note>
183 For a proxy that only speaks NTLM or Kerberos, a local relay such as `cntlm` or `px` works: the relay runs on the workstation, authenticates to your corporate proxy with the user's credentials, and exposes a plain HTTP proxy on the loopback interface. Point `HTTPS_PROXY` and `HTTP_PROXY` at the relay (for example `http://127.0.0.1:3128`). The loopback bypass governs which destinations skip the proxy, not whether the proxy can be reached, so a loopback relay works as a proxy address.

186184Environment builds reach a configured [package mirror](#point-package-installs-at-an-internal-mirror) directly, not through the proxy. Separately, on Linux, on Windows, and on a Mac where Claude Science opens in a browser tab, the `claude-science update` terminal command is its own process. It honors proxy variables exported in that shell but not the macOS `env` file, so export the variables in the terminal first. The background updater inside the running app uses the app's proxy settings, except on a Mac where Claude Science opens in its own window (see [Proxy and certificates for updates in the Mac app window](#proxy-and-certificates-for-updates-in-the-mac-app-window)).

Environment variables for local connectors are saved unencrypted in a configuration file readable by your account only; don't put high-value secrets there. 28**Uninstall.** To remove the app, follow the Windows steps in [Uninstall Claude Science](#uninstall-claude-science).

34 * Claude runs shell commands with PowerShell. Command Prompt scripts, git inside cells, and folder changes in PowerShell need the one-time Windows permission.
35 * Only folders on local NTFS or ReFS drives can be granted, not network shares, mapped network drives, FAT or exFAT drives (many USB sticks and memory cards), or a whole drive such as `D:\`. Copy such files to a local folder or attach them in the chat.
36 * [Custom connectors](/docs/claude-science/custom-connectors) that run a local command start with `npx`, `node`, `python`, or the full path of a program. Connectors launched through `npm` or a `.cmd`, `.bat`, or `.ps1` file aren't supported.
37 * The **Model endpoints** section of **Settings** > **Compute** (NVIDIA BioNeMo NIM) isn't available.

See [Use Claude Science on a corporate network](/docs/claude-science/corporate-networks).

39 **Linux version under WSL.** To use Claude Science from a Linux environment on your Windows computer, run the Linux command-line version under Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL 2, not WSL 1) with Ubuntu 24.04 or later. The Windows app itself doesn't need WSL. Inside the Ubuntu terminal, follow the install steps in the Linux tab, then start Claude Science with `claude-science serve --port 8765 --no-browser` and open the printed link, which starts with `http://127.0.0.1:8765`, in a Windows browser. Projects you create there stay in WSL, and the Windows app keeps its own.
32**Differences on Windows:**
4033
41 If Claude Science under WSL shows one of these errors or problems, use the matching fix:
34* Claude runs shell commands with PowerShell. Command Prompt scripts, git inside cells, and folder changes in PowerShell need the one-time Windows permission.
35* Only folders on local NTFS or ReFS drives can be granted, not network shares, mapped network drives, FAT or exFAT drives (many USB sticks and memory cards), or a whole drive such as `D:\`. Copy such files to a local folder or attach them in the chat.
36* [Custom connectors](/docs/claude-science/custom-connectors) that run a local command start with `npx`, `node`, `python`, or the full path of a program. Connectors launched through `npm` or a `.cmd`, `.bat`, or `.ps1` file aren't supported.
37* The **Model endpoints** section of **Settings** > **Compute** (NVIDIA BioNeMo NIM) isn't available.
4238
43 * `daemon already running`: Claude Science is already running. Run `claude-science url` to print a fresh link, and open it in a Windows browser.
44 * `port 8765 is already in use`: another program, or another copy of Claude Science, has that port. Start with a different one, for example `--port 8080`.
45 * The link stops working: check that Claude Science is still running with `claude-science status`. If it's still running, run `claude-science url` for a fresh link and open it in a Windows browser. Claude Science stops when WSL shuts down, for example after `wsl --shutdown`. Start it again by running `claude-science serve --port 8765 --no-browser` in the Ubuntu terminal.
46 * An SSH host can't be added: under WSL, Claude Science reads the SSH settings in Ubuntu's `~/.ssh`, not the ones in Windows. Copy the host's entry from `C:\Users\<you>\.ssh\config`, and its key file, into Ubuntu's `~/.ssh` folder, then run `chmod 600` on them.
47 * `The database is on /mnt/*`: Claude Science's data folder is on a Windows drive, which it can't use under WSL. Move the folder into your Ubuntu home folder, such as the default `~/.claude-science`, and if you set `data_dir` or `--data-dir`, point it there. If you use a folder other than the default, choose a new, empty one, because Claude Science can delete files in that folder that it didn't create.
48 </Tab>

67First launch prints a local URL right away, then continues setting up its starter Python and R environments. To run Claude Science on a remote server and use it from your computer, see [Run on a remote Linux server](/docs/claude-science/run-on-remote-linux-server).
68
69> [!NOTE]
70>
71> Claude Science is a local application, not a website, so there's no public URL to visit. On Windows it opens in its own window, and on Linux it opens in a browser tab. On a Mac it opens in a browser tab, or in its own window once an update has switched it over (see [Claude Science in its own window on macOS](/docs/claude-science/mac-app-window)). Open it from the application itself: Claude Science in Applications or the Dock on macOS, the Start menu on Windows, or the `claude-science` command on Linux. On a remote server, the sign-in link reaches your browser through an SSH tunnel; see [Run on a remote Linux server](/docs/claude-science/run-on-remote-linux-server).
72
7573## Sign in and complete setup
7674
7775When the app opens, sign in with your Claude account. If Claude Science opens in its own window, on Windows or on a Mac, click the **Sign in on the web** button and confirm with **Continue**. Claude Science then opens claude.ai in your default browser. Once you approve the sign-in there, Claude Science continues in its own window. No API key is required.
from line 82
8482
8583After sign-in, a setup wizard walks you through enabling connectors and skills, setting which websites Claude can access, and choosing whether memory is on. You can change these at any time in Settings.
8684
87<Note>
88 Claude Science keeps your data in a single folder in your home directory: `~/.claude-science` on macOS and Linux, and `%USERPROFILE%\.claude-science` on Windows. On Linux, the `claude-science` command itself installs to `~/.local/bin`, and on Windows the app installs to `%LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\ClaudeScience` and adds that folder to your user PATH. Beyond that, it doesn't modify your existing conda installation, R libraries, or shell configuration. To remove Claude Science, see [Uninstall Claude Science](#uninstall-claude-science).

55On a Mac, Claude Science can now run as its own app, in its own window, rather than in the browser. If yours opens in a browser tab, installing an update from inside Claude Science, such as with **Restart to update**, can switch it over. Installing an update doesn't switch a copy that another account on your Mac installed, such as one that your organization's device management installed. To check whether yours has switched, open Claude Science from your **Applications** folder after the update. If it still opens in a browser tab, it hasn't switched, and you keep using it as before.
