### Content length limit
from line 102
102102| Category | Captures |
103103| - | - |
104104| `userPrompts` | User message text and conversation titles |
105| `assistantResponses` | Model response text |

110110On Claude Desktop version 1.17377 or later, enabling `userPrompts` also captures model responses, even if `assistantResponses` is not listed. On those versions, no `otlpContentCapture` configuration captures user prompts without model responses.
111111
112112Conversation titles arrive on the desktop application's own stream (`claude-desktop`) as a `desktop_session_title_set` event that carries each Cowork and Code session's title and the Claude Code `session.id` to join on. The event is exported only when [`otlpDesktopLogLevel`](/docs/third-party/claude-desktop/configuration#otlpdesktoploglevel) is `info` or `debug`, and the title text is included only when `otlpContentCapture` includes `userPrompts`. Requires Claude Desktop 1.44121.1 or later.
113113
114With `rawApiBodies`, Claude Code truncates each request or response body at 60 KB by default and always redacts Claude's extended-thinking content. See [API request body event](https://code.claude.com/docs/en/monitoring-usage#api-request-body-event) in the Claude Code documentation.
114With `rawApiBodies`, Claude Code always redacts Claude's extended-thinking content. See [API request body event](https://code.claude.com/docs/en/monitoring-usage#api-request-body-event) in the Claude Code documentation.
115115
116116Content is exported only to your configured `otlpEndpoint`. Anthropic does not receive it.

118### Content length limit
119
120In Chat, Cowork, and Code sessions, the OpenTelemetry export by default cuts [captured](#content-capture) model responses, tool content, and request and response bodies at 61,440 characters each. User prompts are not cut. When a request or response body is cut, the [body event](https://code.claude.com/docs/en/monitoring-usage#api-request-body-event) carries `body_truncated` set to `"true"`, and `body_length` holds the full length in characters.
121
122To change the limit, set [`otlpAttrMaxChars`](/docs/third-party/claude-desktop/configuration#otlpattrmaxchars) to a number of characters from 256 to 15,000,000. The key doesn't change the smaller limits of `tool_input`, an attribute of the `toolDetails` category. To capture whole bodies, find the largest `body_length` on the events where `body_truncated` is `"true"`, and set `otlpAttrMaxChars` slightly above it.
123
124Before you raise the limit, make sure that both of these are true:
125
126* **Collector**: your collector's request size limit is a few times the size of your longest body, since one export request can carry several bodies. The key counts characters and the collector counts bytes, and one character can use more than one byte.
127* **Backend**: your backend accepts attribute values of the new length.
128
129`otlpAttrMaxChars` requires Claude Desktop 2.31226.0 or later.
