When that check cannot run in a session, Claude Code can now show a dialog titled \"Auto mode can't check actions in this session\" and send the notification \"Auto mode can't check actions in this session and needs your choice\". It offers:\n\n- stay in auto mode\n\n- leave for accept edits mode and stop (accept edits lets file edits through without asking)\n\n- interrupt\n\nThe second choice needs a taller window. There are matching messages for each way auto mode can stop, and a note that safety check requests made by Claude Code itself are billed and need your acknowledgement.\n\nOther changes to the server review of auto mode:\n\n- when the server check fails with a server error and no request ID, the message suggests asking whoever runs your proxy or gateway to let the check through, and names `CLAUDE_CODE_AUTO_MODE_SERVER=0` as a workaround, except when the provider is managed by the host\n\n- host-managed providers no longer need `CLAUDE_CODE_PROVIDER_MANAGED_BY_HOST` outright to qualify\n\n- setting `CLAUDE_CODE_AUTO_MODE_SERVER` now overrides the block that `CLAUDE_CODE_DISABLE_EXPERIMENTAL_BETAS` would otherwise apply\n\n**Why**\n\nPeople running auto mode through a gateway or proxy get an explicit choice and a hint on how to fix it, instead of actions being refused without explanation.\n\n- Flag `tengu_woolly_emerson`: Not enough to say (read for one account on one subscription tier against v2.1.319; this account: no value returned, anonymous baseline: no value returned, compiled default: on) These values were read against a different version of Claude Code, so treat them as the nearest reading available instead of one taken on this release.\n- Area: Auto Mode\n- Tier: You'll notice\n- Useful: 4\/5\n- Signal: 3\/5\n- Scope: individual\n- Heads-up: yes"}
