A new check decides whether to skip it. It looks at the estimated size of the conversation in tokens (small pieces of text), the model, how close the conversation is to being blocked, and the context window (how much the model can see at once). Its last condition is the remote switch `tengu_concurrent_lake`, which falls back to off when the server sends nothing. If the check fails with an error, Claude Code records that and does not skip.\n\n**Why**\n\nThis could change when long conversations get compacted.\n\n- Flag `tengu_concurrent_lake`: Not enough to say (read for one account on one subscription tier against v2.1.318; this account: no value returned, anonymous baseline: no value returned, compiled default: off) These values were read against a different version of Claude Code, so treat them as the nearest reading available instead of one taken on this release.\n- Area: Compaction\n- Tier: Nothing to try yet\n- Useful: 2\/5\n- Signal: 4\/5\n- Scope: individual\n- Heads-up: no\n- Present in the build but not switched on"}
