A subagent is a helper agent Claude starts to handle part of a job. When you resume a session or the conversation is compacted (shortened to save space), Claude Code rebuilds the task list from the conversation history.\n\nThat rebuild has changed. Before, it replayed every task created or updated, whoever made it. Now, tasks created or updated by a subagent are skipped when their ids clash with, or are no higher than, ids already in use. Subagent tasks are kept track of separately, and are dropped when the main session creates a task with the same id.\n\n**Why**\n\nThis stops task lists getting mixed up or wiped after a resume when subagents also used task tools.\n\n- Area: Background Tasks\n- Tier: You'll notice\n- Useful: 2\/5\n- Signal: 1\/5\n- Scope: individual\n- Heads-up: no"}
